Dementia can be a distressing condition that affects both those living with it, and their families. At Francis House Homecare we offer specialised dementia homecare services designed to support a number of conditions including vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Our experience of providing specialist dementia care in Central Bedfordshire has shown that homecare services, delivered in familiar surroundings can result in a good quality of life and an enhanced sense of safety and security.
It can be difficult for people with dementia to accept that they need care and support from others. At Francis House Homecare we take care to provide support packages that are sensitive to these anxieties and concerns. A profile is created for each of our clients, containing information about their professional life, their likes and dislikes, their hobbies and their aspirations.
The dementia care we offer will always prioritise the person over their symptoms. Our care workers will take time to engage their clients in conversations, memory recall and activities that have a special meaning for them.
Francis House specialist carers tend to become involved in a dementia sufferer’s care at the moment when families feel they need extra support. We are aware that introducing professional care into the home of your loved one can be difficult. That’s why we work closely with families to determine the level of support they need from us – we will never try to ‘take over’.
Planning for the future is important for dementia clients and their families because the condition is progressive, requiring different kinds of care at each stage. Rather than reacting to each new symptom, we help friends and family to plan ahead. We can also help with an application for home care funding.
One in three people will provide unpaid care for someone with dementia in their lifetime. The work families and friends do is extraordinary, but it’s also extremely demanding. Often a short break can replenish depleted stores of energy and ensure the caring can continue.
Francis House Homecare provides a ‘sit-in’ service offering short periods of respite regularly to family carers. We can also provide 24 hour live-in care to allow family carers to take a holiday without worrying about their loved one whilst they’re away.
Francis House dementia care services help to support clients in their own home. These are delivered by trained carers who have the versatility and expertise to deliver care and support to people at every stage of dementia. The personalised care services we provide are subject to an individual care plan assessment.
